actually Mackrick, you'd DEFINITELY know the answer to this - it dawned on me during our brief VC10/Vulcan tanking sortie - it's never happened for real has it?

Vulcans out of service in 1984 (except 426 and 558) - first VC10 K2 in service???????????????

Vulcans would only ever have tanked from Victors, Valiants for a wee while, and other stop-gap Vulcan tankers - and Murkin stuff surely???

I would't stake my life on this but I thought the first K2 tanker entered service June 1982????? or was that it's first flight.............

from VC10.net.........

"The first K2 flew on 22nd June 1982 from Filton with BAe pilots Roy Radford and John Lewis."

so, it's chronologically possible that a Vulcan plugged in to a VC10, but i can't think of any reason why though :(

they didn't enter Squadron use till 83 though so it would possibly have been during trials ...

honestly? i didn't believe you Mayfly =)) =)) :ymblushing:

had to check! '82 sounded to early :ymblushing:

i know that 141 was used for extensive trials with all sorts of things (including the Nimrod AEW - must find that clip ;) ) - but would there have been a legitimate reason to trial a Vulcan?

not only were they at the end of their service lives, but Black Buck proved that AAR with Vulcans hadn't been done for years! would BB have made a few Brass think again i wonder?

news reports that possible removal of SA ship and replace with a RFA ship... last time this happened was 82 when Endurance was pulled out... hence 82 conflict ... so ... it might happen again .. SM's comment on BB missions make brass think ... so how could it be done now ?

Having consulted my 4 Oracles they all reply definitely not. The closest they got was clearance with the VC10 Victor combination. Sorry.

thanks Mackrick - just confirms what i thought - i didn't think the chronology added up.

even so, my comment to Wedgy the other day was that IF such a tanking sortie ever HAD happened, surely it would've been from the central HDU wouldn't it?

FSX VC10s are C1Ks, so only have wing HDUs - so that's the best we can do :(

note to self - find the clip of 141, in camouflage livery, being chased by Nimrod AEW B-) \:D/

SM get it right....HDU is a Hose Drum Unit .... Big one in the middle ... Mk32 Pods are the bits under the wings ..

i thought that they was all generically HDUs - each being a hose wound around a drum, irrespective of position, capacity or size?

if i DID lose concentration, i was only due to having to ensure i didn't slip in my own puddles of drool :D
