FSX

right deciding I wish to join in the fun - I think I shall buy (or get DT to buy me for my birfday) FSX Gold as I understand it's all things FSX bundled together so hope it's compatable with your versions.

now down to joysticks what is reccommended - anybody any suggestions? Is it best to have force feed back? - all thoughts appriecated B-)

hurrah! although i suspect we might be trying to compete with an imposter at times! itmight say "Mayfly" over the top of your aeroplane, but who will really be at the wheel? :((

joysticks: you can go nuts and spend a fortune (i read about somebloke who bought an entire flight-deck and wired it up! :-B

but for we mere mortals - this is what i use:

Saitek Cyborg EVO Joystick
Image

£30 from Amazon :D http://www.amazon.co.uk/Saitek-Cyborg-EVO-Joystick-PC/dp/B0000AW9P1/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1222955426&sr=8-1

there's also a wireless version of the same joystick http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00030GSJE/ref=dp_olp_1/202-6278519-7333455 which seems to be on special offer! :((

they are a little plasticy (is that a real word???) but do the job very well, and seem to have some excellent reviews :)

I wonder what the difference between FSX Deluxe and FSX Gold is? Maybe Gold includes Service Pack 1 AND FSX Expansion Pack? :D

Basically this is a bundle of Deluxe+Acceleration, you get both sets of disks and install Deluxe and then Acceleration.......

haha

the galling thing is he hasn't touched a flight sim on the pc for 5 years until yesterday when we discovered my new joystick isn't working with vista ~x( so he installs it on his pc (XP) then proceeds to shoot down 5 sqns of the emeny on combat FS

Mayfly, did DT tell you your new stick isn't compatible with Vista? This quote is from their website

This product is fully compatible with Windows Vista. However, the SST software and drivers on the accompanying disc will only work on XP. If you are using Vista the latest drivers and SST software can be downloaded from our Drivers and Software section.

I have the Cyborg Evo (wired) and it says exactly the same for mine. The PC will see the stick via the USB. Then calibrate it in Control Panel/Game Controllers. Or through the options menu in Flight Sim. b-(
